Callous Corona Community

Today saw the start of an unprecedented event, a country in lock down. Never in the history of my life, my mother's, my grandmother or her grandmother's life has this ever happened before! The nation watched in sheer shock and despair as our President made the announcement and we all felt the emotion when he said Enkosi Sikelel IAfrika, at least this is what I thought.

So why is it that so many areas within the Western Cape inclusive of my own is acting as if it is merely a normal day, a public holiday of sorts? I saw numerous videos sent via WhatsApp and on the news of Town Centre looking as packed as it is on a normal day, stalls that would normally operate functioning as always. In my area I hear the sounds of children playing in the road, I see people walking by, teenagers still hanging around on corners WTH PEOPLE!!!!! Have you all not seen the news of what is taking place around the world? Have you not seen that our numbers jumped from 50 last week to over 1000 today and that we have 2 confirmed deaths in the Western Cape? Are you living under a rock?

Then to add insult to injury some man interviewed in Mitchells Plain by the local news reporter indicates that he does not believe that this virus is a real thing, that the government just made it up to scare us, really???? Why would the Government let alone the world want to bring our entire existence to its knees economically? I literally had to close my mouth as I was gob smacked at this mentality and sheer callous behavior.

The worst part for me is that our medical staff are working day and night, extensive hours, placing themselves at risk to save our lives and protect us and it is the actions of those not heading the Presidents call that will see us fail hopelessly. I look at my own family and listen to the stories of a family member who in the medical profession, she is so fearful for her life and the life of her family and all her colleagues, I listen to the her mothers heart wrenching fear for her child - because so often we forget that all of them are still someone's Child, someone's mother/father, someone's brother/sister, someone's wife/husband, someone's grandmother/grandfather and your selfish actions don't just affect you, its affects all of us!

We pray daily for deliverance from this dreaded disease, for a life to come back to after this, for healing to our land and for enlightenment of our fellow South African's but today I am feeling so disheartened, so sad! What will it take for you to realise what you are doing? What do you need to realise how serious this is? Does it not hit home that one of the nurses that worked at Melomed Mitchells Plain died this morning?

To my fellow South African's that listened and #StayedHome - I salute you! Your selfless act has done more than you will ever know! To the Callous Communities I pray for your deliverance from your selfish behavior and that you change your ways sooner than later. Its simple, just #StayHome! God Bless Africa, Guard Her Children, Guide Her Leaders and Grant us Peace.

What has your experience been like so far? Share the good and the bad we need all the motivation we can get.
